Anonymous asked: dont get an iud. ive had mine less than a year and am getting it removed. if you havent had kids. dont do it.
Thanks for the concern but I’ve had mine for over a year and a half. And I love it.
I also have about 8 friends that have had theirs for about a year and have had no problems.
I also had mine inserted by a woman who was big into the clinical trials of Mirena and was important in the decision that it was completely safe to use for women who haven’t had kids. So she actually has 15 more years of experience than most doctors that deal with IUDs and educated me a lot on their use and safety.
I’m sorry that you’ve had a bad experience and would be open to hearing what your problems have been with it. But honestly this is the best solution for me and the pros vastly outweighed the cons.
I think that the IUD is an excellent option that is sorely underutilized by young women and that much of the belief that it is unsafe for women who haven’t had kids is based on outdated literature based on much more unsafe models like the Dalkon shield.
However, I have heard some issues with Mirena being a problem in women with smaller uteruses. So perhaps that was your issue. But they’re actually testing and coming out with a smaller version geared specifically for younger women or those with smaller uteruses. That version will actually be good for 3 years instead of 5 like the Mirena in popular use today.
